Zamir Ghumro

Barrister Zamir Ghumro has served as Advocate General Sindh and is currently a Member of the Senate of Pakistan. He has extensively written in various papers on constitutional and legal matters and undertaken public interest litigation. He has advocated for constitutional supremacy and believes that the political system is the linchpin of constitutional government. He asserts that the federal nature of our Constitution requires that federal and provincial governments work within their own legal and constitutional spheres. The division of powers between the Federation and Provinces must be respected and, in case of disputes, adjudicated by a Federal Court that represents all provinces equally. He believes that the fundamental rights of people are sacrosanct. There are two contracts in a federal constitution: one political, between the Federation and the Provinces, and the other a social contract between the State and Citizens. Both must be respected for the people and the country to prosper.
