Zafar Mairaj
Zafar Mairaj is a distinguished Pakistani playwright, lyricist, and short‑story writer whose work spans more than three decades. Writing primarily in Urdu—while also contributing in Brahui and Balochi—he has authored over fifty drama serials, plays, and telefilms, emerging as one of Pakistan’s most versatile and socially engaged storytellers. Born in Mastung, Balochistan, he began his literary journey while studying civil engineering, publishing short stories and opinion columns before writing his first long‑form play, Amarbail (1991) for PTV. His notable works include Sangat, Inkaar, Kabuli Pulao, Muhabbat Ki Akhri Kahani, and Dil Wali Gali Mein, many of which explore complex emotional and social themes with nuance and authenticity. A recipient of multiple awards, including the Pride of Performance (2018), Mairaj is celebrated for shaping contemporary Pakistani drama with integrity, realism, and a deep understanding of human relationships.
