Tanveer Anjum
Tanveer Anjum is a distinguished poet from Karachi, who emerged on the scene of Urdu poetry in the 1970s and became famous in the genre of prose poem. She is the author of eight poetry collections, namely ‘Andekhi Lehrein’ (1982), ‘Safar aur Qaid mein Nazmein’ (1993), ‘Toofani Barishon mein Raqsan Sitare’ (1997), ‘Sar-o-Barg-e-Arzoo’ (2001), ‘Zindigi Mere Pairon se Lipat Jaaegi’ (2010), ‘Naye Naam ki Mohabbat’ (2013), ‘Hashyon mein Rang’ (2016), and ‘Frame se Bahar’ (2016). ‘Fireworks on a Windowpane’ (2014) is a bilingual book of her selected poems with English translations and ‘Nai Zabaan ke Huruf’ (2020) is a compilation of her selected poems from all her seven poetry collections. Her poetry has been translated in various languages and widely anthologized. She has contributed to Urdu magazines with her translations of world literature from English and literary criticism articles. She has a PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin, USA and currently teaches Urdu and English Literature courses at Habib University and Iqra University in Karachi. She is also the recipient of some prestigious literary awards.
