Shahzeb Jillani is a journalist based in Karachi, Pakistan. Co-host of ‘Zara Hut Kay’, the late-night current affairs show on Dawn News TV focusing on democratic rights, politics, society, and climate change. Media and journalism trainer at the Center of Excellence in Journalism (CEJ), IBA, Karachi. Shahzeb started out as an environmental reporter at The News in Karachi. He then spent 15 years at the BBC as a multilingual and multimedia editor and correspondent working across global news teams in London, Washington, Beirut, and Islamabad. During this time, Shahzeb’s reporting trips and documentary work took him to Israel, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Venezuela, and Brazil. In 2019, Shahzeb was working as a senior executive editor at a news channel in Pakistan when the government’s media restrictions, targeting and harassment of independent journalists forced him to leave the country. He spent the next two years working for the DW News in Germany.
