Shahida Hasan

Shahida is a world renowned and internationally acclaimed Urdu poetess. Shahida expresses herself through the Ghazal and Nazm genres of Urdu poetry and has published two books: Eik Tara Hai Sirhany Mairay and Yahaan Kuch phool Rakhay Hain. She is currently working on her kulliyat titled Zameen ka Naqsha Badal Raha Hay. An M.A. Honors in English Literature from Karachi University, she worked as a Professor of English Literature at various colleges in Karachi, spending a number of years as the Head of the English Department. She retired as a Principal, Government College for Women, Nazimabad, Karachi. Amongst Shahida’s many recognitions and awards include: Faani Badayuni Aalmi Urdu Award 1990 for Urdu poetry by Aalmi Urdu Conference, New Delhi, India; Women of the Year in Literature (1996) by Triple-E, Karachi; Honorary Citizenship and appointed Goodwill Ambassador by the Mayor of Houston, USA (2005) in recognition of the valuable contributions in the field of literature; and the 5th Ali Sardar Jafri Literary Award (2012) for contribution to modern Urdu literature by The Aligarh Alumni Association, Houston, Texas
