Rehana Ahmed

Dr. Ahmed is a medical doctor with an executive MBA from Columbia University, USA. Her career has focused on maternal and child health, with a concentration on family planning. Dr. Ahmed has revolutionized access to quality sexual and reproductive health services by engaging private providers using a business approach called Social Franchising for Health. This model fosters a symbiotic and efficient partnership with healthcare providers.

During her 14-year stay in East Africa, Dr. Ahmed extended her influence well beyond Pakistan, propagating the social franchising model across 37 countries in Asia and Africa. These efforts, commissioned by donors and leading global health organizations such as PSI, MSI, and FHI360, culminated in the establishment of successful franchise brands like Blue Star, Gold Star, and Tunza. These are recognized in the Clinical Social Franchising Compendium, an annual survey by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Dr. Ahmed’s commitment to advancing global health standards is further evidenced by her work as a Technical Advisory in the Reproduction Division of the World Health Organization. Her dedication to nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders continues through lectures in the MSc Health and Policy Management program at the Aga Khan University, Karachi.

Notably, Dr. Ahmed serves as the Board Chair of Greenstar Social Marketing and a Global Board Director for FP 2030. She also serves on the inaugural Governing Board of FP 2030, underlining her leadership in family planning and reproductive health on a global scale.
