Qamar Bharoocha Bana
Qamar Bharoocha Bana was born in Mumbai and grew up across Pakistan, India, Burma, and Bangladesh. Her journey as an artist began in her early teens when she received a Rolleiflex box camera—a gift that opened up a lifelong passion for image‑making. What started as photographing family, travel, and everyday moments gradually evolved into a serious artistic practice. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in Delhi, Germany, Istanbul, and Nairobi, and in 2015 her photograph The Hand appeared on the cover of the New York–published book Framing Peace. She has also been invited to present her work at the Florence Biennale. Both narrative and documentary in spirit, Qamar’s photography is shaped by her sensitivity to color, form, texture, and emotional resonance. A contributing artist to the Karachi Biennale’s Karachi Art Directory, Qamar focuses on people, faces, and environments—capturing not just subjects but the atmosphere of fleeting moments. Whether photographing a musician during Holi celebrations in Rajasthan or the everyday rhythms of Karachi’s streets, she transforms ordinary scenes into visually compelling, immersive experiences for the viewer.
