Muhammad Hameed Shahid
Muhammad Hameed Shahid is a prominent fiction writer and literary critic. His writing journey began during his school days, with his first book published while he was still a university student. He has authored several collections of short stories, including ‘Band Ankhoon Sy Pare,’ ‘Janam Jahanam,’ ‘Margzaar,’ ‘Aadmi,’ ‘Sans Lene Mein Dard Hota Ha’ and ‘Gandam Ki Mehak.’ In addition to these, he has penned two novels, namely ‘Mitti Adam Khati Ha’ and ‘Jang Mein Mohabbat Ki Tasveer Nahein Banti.’ Mr. Shahid has also made significant contributions to non-fiction literature with works such as ‘Adbi Tanaziaat,’ ‘Urdu Afsana: Soorat o Maana,’ ‘Urdu Fiction Naye Mubahis,’ ‘Kahani aur Llosa Sy Muaamla,’ ‘Rashed, Meraji, Faiz: Nayaab hein Hum,’ ‘Intekhab Ghazaliat e Mir,’ and ‘Justju Guftgu,’ among others. His short stories have been nationally and internationally anthologized and translated into various languages. Moreover, he has translated global fiction and poetry from English into Urdu. His most recent publication is ‘Khushboo Ki Dewar Ky Pechae,’ an autobiography. Notably, his books were shortlisted for both the 6th UBL Literary Excellence and Karachi Literature Festival awards in 2016, and he was declared a winner of the UBL Literary Excellence Award in 2017. In recognition of his literary contributions, he was honoured with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in 2017.
