
Mahtab Akbar Rashdi
Mahtab Akbar Rashdi hails from a prominent family of Larkana. She started her career as an educationist and thereafter joined the International Relations Department at the University of Sindh in 1973. Later, she went to the University of Massachusetts, USA, on a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a master’s in international relations from 1976 to 1978.
Her administrative career has been outstanding. She has served as Chairperson of the International Relations Department at the University of Sindh in Jamshoro, Director of the Institute of Sindhology, and Regional Director of the University Grants Commission for Sindh and Balochistan.
The Sindh Government acquired her services in 1988. It is significant to note that she also has the honour of being the first woman Administrative Secretary in the history of the Sindh Secretariat.
She has served as Secretary of Culture and Tourism, Youth Affairs and Sports, Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency, Secretary of Social Welfare & Women Development, Secretary of Education, Director General of the Provincial Ombudsman Secretariat, Secretary of Information and Archives, and Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination.
She is also associated with various learned bodies, forums, and social organizations, such as the Board of Directors of HUM TV and the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA).
She was a Member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh from 2013 to 2018 and is currently a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan.
Mahtab Akbar Rashdi has proven her leadership qualities by her commitment to accepting all assignments as a challenge and has set a precedent for others to follow.
A fighter and an achiever, this remarkable personality is a true woman of today. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she has been conferred with numerous awards from different organizations, including the ‘Pride of Performance,’ the National Award by the President of Pakistan in 2004.
