Mahera Omar is a documentary filmmaker. Her film Perween Rahman: The Rebel Optimist won the best documentary award in the Across the Border category at the 7th Delhi International Film Festival and a special jury mention at the 6th Nepal International Human Rights Film Festival. Her other films include Gutter Baghicha, Pakistan Chowk, City by the Sea: The Future of Karachi’s Coastline and A Garden in Shigar. She also directed Janu Janwar, a weekly series on animals, and the documentary Sea Turtles in Pakistan for Geo TV. Since 2014, she has been recording qawwali and classical music in Pakistan as part of the Dream Journey sessions. Ms Omar is also co-founder of Pakistan Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
