Bina Shah

Bina Shah is a Karachi-based author and novelist. She earned critical acclaim for her novels about Pakistan: ‘Where They Dream in Blue’ (2001), ‘The 786 Cybercafe’ (2004), ‘Slum Child’ (2009) and ‘A Season for Martyrs’ (2014). Bina has been a regular contributor to The New York Times and a frequent guest on the BBC. She has written essays and op-eds for Granta, Al Jazeera, The Independent, and The Guardian, in addition to maintaining a regular opinion column for Dawn. She was honoured in 2022 with the rank of Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France. Her latest novel ‘The Monsoon War’ (2023) is a standalone sequel to her popular feminist dystopia ‘Before She Sleeps’ (2018).
