
Ali Zaryoun
Ali Zaryoun (born Shahid Mahmood) is a multilingual poet, lyricist, and writer known for his evocative verses and thought-provoking commentary on social and cultural issues. His poetic journey began in 1999, and he has since gained recognition for his work in Urdu, Hindi, Farsi, Punjabi, and English.
His career gained momentum through his participation in literary gatherings, including the Mufakkir Academy sessions, where he received encouragement from senior poets. A significant milestone came in 2005 when Saleem Kausar recognized his work in Karachi. He later performed at major poetry events such as Aouj-e-Kamal (2007) and Alami Mushaira (2008), where he shared the stage with renowned poets like Waseem Barelvi and Munawwar Rana.
As a lyricist, Zaryoun contributed to the drama series Zan Mureed, with his song “Main Wo Duniya Hoon Jahan Teri Kami Hai Saiyaan”, performed by Sahir Ali Bagga. He has also performed at international literary events, including Jashn-e-Urdu in Dubai, where his recitations highlighted the richness of the Urdu language. In a tribute to Jaun Elia, he participated in a special poetry event in Dubai, celebrating the legacy of classical and contemporary poetry.
Beyond poetry, Zaryoun has ventured into film, working on the project Dagabaaz Dil alongside actress Mehwish Hayat. Known for his distinctive style and independent approach, he remains dedicated to mentoring young poets and promoting Urdu literature. His work continues to resonate globally, bridging artistic traditions and contemporary themes.
