Javed Zia
Ambassador Lieutenant General Javed Zia (Retd.) is a distinguished former senior officer of the Pakistan Army, renowned for his leadership, strategic clarity, and people‑centric approach throughout a 40‑year military career. He held several pivotal appointments, including Commander Southern Command, Director General Rangers Sindh, Deputy Chief of General Staff, and Adjutant General. His tenure in Balochistan earned wide praise for promoting dialogue, trust‑building, and constructive civil‑military engagement during a sensitive period in the province’s history, leading many to regard him as an ‘intellectual general’ known for his measured and responsible approach. After retiring from the Army, Lt.-Gen. Zia continued to serve Pakistan in significant civilian and diplomatic roles. He was appointed Chairman of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) in 2017 and previously held leadership positions at Askari Bank, the Army Welfare Trust, DHA Islamabad, and policy committees of the Fauji Foundation. From 2014 to 2016, he served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Libya, where he led the evacuation of nearly 8,000 Pakistanis during the conflict—one of the largest and most effective humanitarian operations undertaken by a Pakistani foreign mission. He is a graduate of premier institutions including Command & Staff College Quetta, the U.S. Infantry School at Fort Benning, and the National Defence University, Islamabad. He holds master’s degrees in political science and strategic studies and has been awarded the Hilal‑e‑Imtiaz (Military).
