Sahar Gul Bhatti

Dr. Sahar Gul holds two Master’s degrees in Philosophy and Anthropology, a doctoral degree in Philosophy, and diplomas in Arabic and Persian languages. Her doctoral thesis, titled ‘Philosophy of Cosmopolitan Nationalism and Class Perspective: Understanding Sindh’s Ethno-Centric Dilemma,’ reflects her deep engagement with issues of identity and nationalism.

She is dedicated to disseminating the message of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and draws parallels with the works of Iranian and sub-continental poets. Over the past 22 years, she has taught Philosophy and the History of Ideas at three universities in Pakistan, including Sindh University, Hamdard University Islamabad, and SZABIST Hyderabad. She also served as Director of the Benazir Bhutto Chair at Karachi University from 2015 to 2018.

Her extensive experience spans various national and international organizations, such as the UN, Oxfam GB, Concern Worldwide, ActionAid Pakistan, Plan International, and World Vision. Notably, she conducted perception surveys in conflict-affected areas during Pakistan’s military operations in 2008–2009, focusing on post-extremism scenarios.

Dr. Gul’s research interests include Gender Justice, Philosophy, Radicalization in South Asia (with a focus on Pakistan and Afghanistan), Cosmopolitan Nationalism, Literature, and Eastern Mysticism. She is also a seasoned media contributor, having hosted talk shows on socio-political issues.

Her literary contributions include the novel ‘Ishq Tamam, Bireh Tamam,’ published in Sindhi in 2018, which explores themes of Buddhism and love. Upcoming works include the Urdu translation of her novel, a collection of interviews with philosopher Jawaid Bhutto, essays on socio-political issues, translations of Tagore’s Nationalism and Historical Materialism, a travelogue for children, and a novel/dialogue on Greek Philosophy.
